About North Hills
BOOKKEEPING THAT KNOWS YOUR MARKET
The North Hills is one of the busiest commercial areas in the Pittsburgh suburbs. McKnight Road alone is packed with medical practices, professional services firms, restaurants, retail operations, and everything in between. Ross Township, Shaler, McCandless, and Hampton each have their own business communities, and together they make up a significant chunk of the region's economy.
What ties these four townships together is geography and commuting patterns. Most North Hills business owners have employees and customers spread across multiple municipalities. That's normal here. But it also means your bookkeeping has to account for where each person lives and works, because the tax withholding requirements are different depending on the municipality.
Local Tax Expertise
NORTH HILLS TAX FILING ACROSS FOUR TOWNSHIPS
Ross Township, Shaler Township, McCandless Township, and Hampton Township all have an EIT rate of 1%, and all four file through Keystone Collections. The rates are the same, but the filing obligations are not identical. Each township is its own tax jurisdiction, so you need to track which employees work in which municipality and file accordingly.
Every township in the North Hills also requires withholding the Local Services Tax (LST) of $52/year for employees earning over $12,000. That's withheld from paychecks and remitted quarterly through Keystone Collections. If you have employees working across multiple North Hills locations, you need to allocate the LST correctly for each one.
The real complexity shows up when your employees live outside the North Hills. A Ross Township business with employees living in Pittsburgh (nearly 3% EIT), Cranberry Township (about 1% through Berkheimer), or anywhere else in the region has to withhold at different rates for each person. We manage all of that, including the credit calculations and quarterly filings with the right collector for each jurisdiction.

Common Questions
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Because each township is its own tax jurisdiction with separate filing requirements. Even though the rate is 1% across all four, you still need to report to the correct municipality. And if your employees live outside the North Hills, the withholding rates and collectors change. Getting the jurisdiction wrong means filing with the wrong entity, which leads to penalties.
Yes. We work with several healthcare and dental practices in the North Hills. Medical bookkeeping involves tracking insurance reimbursements, managing payroll for clinical and administrative staff, and handling the specific expense categories that matter at tax time. We set all of that up in QuickBooks Online so you have clean financials year-round.
We track each employee's resident municipality and calculate the correct EIT withholding rate for each person. If someone lives in Pittsburgh, their rate is nearly 3%. If they live in Cranberry Township, it's about 1% but through a different collector (Berkheimer instead of Keystone). We handle the rate differences, credit calculations, and filings with the right collector for every employee on your payroll.
Medical practices, restaurants, professional services firms, contractors, retail businesses, and more. The North Hills has a wide mix of industries, and we've worked with most of them. Our Growth plan is popular with North Hills businesses because it includes payroll support, which is where the multi-township complexity really shows up.
That's one of the most common reasons people reach out to us. Catch-up bookkeeping is a core service. Whether you're a few months behind or a couple years behind, we'll reconcile everything, sort out the tax filings, and set up a system so it stays clean going forward.
